Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Centura Software Corp., a maker of
secure, embedded micro and e-business databases and development
solutions for Internet appliances and other intelligent devices, has just
formed Centura Embedded Systems K.K. (CES), a wholly-owned
subsidiary in Minato- ku, Tokyo, Japan. CES will focus on delivering
Centura 's embedded micro database, connectivity products and
services to the burgeoning Intelligent Device marketplace in Japan. "We
are very excited to commence formal operations at CES," says Jun
Takemori, a director at the new unit. An expert in the area of embedded
systems development and formerly with Wind River Systems Japan
K.K., Takemori says Centura is "uniquely positioned to provide real
solutions in this exciting and maturing arena. We anticipate the need to
'fasten our seat belts.'" Intelligent devices are a growing class of non-PC
devices that store and manipulate data. The category includes set-top
boxes, industrial controllers, office equipment, consumer appliances,
Internet access devices, and many telecom components requiring
