Jack,

I am not familiar with how data is sent on the web. Are all transactions on Netscape done with SSL? It is my understanding that anyone along the way (on the net) can read the message unless it is sent when the "key" in the lower left is unbroken. The key is only unbroken when one server is protected (I think). Also, when I post this message I get a warning that it is not secure.

Is anyone familiar with compuserve? Does it use its own net? Has it always? Does each user get a password? When their sales are made do they use a credit card #? Either the cc # or the password are authorization codes.

I do want to point out that I believe an non-encrypted sale still infringes (but I am not as certain).

I do not think your stock purchase is an infringement because a material object must be sold and then created at the point of sale (your pc). The stock certificate would be a material obkect, but it is not created by your pc. The data on your pc is merely a record of what the obkect was, not the object itself.
