About Snow And Cold

Since you bring up the weather and upcoming winter, and I have nothing much to say about MDR <G>----

It is a mistake to equate 'Snow' and 'Cold',
or 'Snow' and 'Heavy Heating-Fuel Demand'.

Those in the North who have heated with wood will confirm that a nice thick blanket of snow on the roof acts to insulate the house and reduce trips to the woodpile.
(This insulating effect is not as obvious to those using oil or gas heat, since they're not carrying firewood, but is nonetheless just as true for them.)

--- Lots of snow means Less fuel use than if there's little snow. (With temps the same)
--- Bitter cold, strong winds, and Little Snow would be optimum for maximum oil/gas demand.

I thought someone ought to explain to the Texans and other denizens of the South about that.

regards,
diana
