What makes you say this?

While I may be biased for professional reasons, this is a very broad statement. There are a lot of issues to assess specific to each patent that requires attention before reaching this conclusion.

"They have totally discarded the concepts of novelty and logical extension of prior art. They will patent anything from text book examples, pure concepts, even methods of doing business."

Regarding which patent? Why? Have you examined the date of invention? I don't believe the novelty standard has diminished in the art...perhaps in others. Some suggest generally, the obviousness standard has been more weakly applied, but that doesn't make a patent bullet proof during litigation per se. Are you examing the claims in a vacuum or reviewing the file wrapper in toto?
