``Ericsson's new R280LX with our microbrowser is another step forward in bringing wireless Internet capabilities to the mass market,' said Ben Linder, VP of Marketing at Phone.com. ``The robust capabilities of Phone.com's UP.Browser microbrowser coupled with the size and speed of Ericsson's R280LX will create a truly unique mobile experience. The biggest winner in this licensing agreement is going to be the end-user.'
The R280d will be unveiled at Comdex, November 15, 1999 and is expected to commercially ship in Q1, 2000. The R280LX delivers quick access to breaking news, sports, weather, financial and other Web data. CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data), is an open, non-proprietary standard that allows data to be transmitted across a wireless network at up to 19.2 kbps. Beyond CDPD, this Quad Mode phone, also supports digital and analog voice services (analog 800 MHz, digital TDMA 800 MHz and PCS 1900 MHz) for seamless voice clarity and reach even in rural areas.
``The Phone.com UP.Browser microbrowser delivers a proven solution for the rollout of this new innovative handset,' said Jeffrey R. Mandell, vice president of marketing for Ericsson Mobile Phones/Region Americas. ``The R280LX is an ideal mobile Internet companion for both business and personal use and is great example in a long line of wireless products manufactured by Ericsson.'
