Neocon--<You have to have been irritable over the relationship between the novel and the movie, I suppose> I have not, unfortunately, read the novels and am 'stuck' with the movies which I found quite satisfying. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Speaking of books to movies, I am fearful of the John Irving translation of "Cider House Rules" to celluloid, even with the screenplay being done by him. His book about his Hollywood experience is reviewed in this weeks NYTimes Book Review section and the first chapter is available for download and printing. The chapter documents his process of condensing the novel for the screen.

I am most worried that it is being rumored that hie "Son of the Circus" will be put on the screen. This is a novel that should get at least a 12 episode series on PBS like "Jewel in the Crown" was presented.

Thanks for your interesting commentary.
