Vixel Ships 50% of the Composite Fibre Channel Hub and Switch Port Shipments BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1999--According to Dataquest, a Gartner Group Company, Vixel Corporation (Nasdaq:VIXL) has achieved the number one position for composite port shipments of Fibre Channel entry and managed hubs and, Fibre Channel switches. The Dataquest "Fibre Channel Components for SAN Infrastructure" market analysis report, which covers calendar year 1998 and the first half of calendar year 1999 reflects Vixel's position in the rapidly growing Fibre Channel SAN (storage area networking) component market. "The Fibre Channel market has experienced dynamic growth since 1997 and we believe it will continue to grow at a healthy rate over the foreseeable future," said James Opfer, senior analyst, Dataquest. "Further, we believe that overall experience is an important factor in the capability of the industry to deploy systems with the increasing complexity that is required to maintain a healthy growth rate." The recently published report details market size and growth in a variety of categories for Fibre Channel (FC) products for SAN infrastructures. According to Dataquest, due to Vixel's number one position in the entry hub market, Vixel shipped 50% of the composite FC hub and switch ports over the 18-month period between January 1998 and June 1999. Vixel's ability to offer all of the key components of the SAN interconnect, including switches, hubs, transceivers and management software, meets key customer requirements. The company's experience and innovative Fibre Channel solutions provide storage area networking technologies to customers in a variety of industries, including financial, film and video, retail, .com, e-commerce and virtually any business where applications are mission critical, data is increasing exponentially, and the business climate is highly competitive. "Vixel has earned its strong position by providing all of the key technologies required by Fibre Channel SAN customers," said Arun Taneja, vice president marketing, Vixel Corporation. "We are the only 'one-stop' source for customers requiring reliable, interoperable Fibre Channel hub and switch solutions to address their mission critical applications. In addition, our industry-leading management software, SAN InSite(TM) is the only software application that manages switches, hubs and transceivers from a single console." To demonstrate its enhanced range of product offerings, Vixel today introduced at Comdex its newest line of Fibre Channel switches. These new products incorporate Vixel's third generation of "Stealth" loop switching technology. The company is the inventor of loop switching technology and continues to develop and deliver innovative advancements. The Vixel 7000 Series Switches (Vixel 7100 and Vixel 7200) feature the company's exclusive "Stealth-3" technology with superior LIP isolation capabilities, simple upgrade ability to fabric, unsurpassed performance and exceptional value. Industry standard hot-pluggable GBIC interface connectors ensure superior media flexibility and system reliability. Each switch is packaged in a common 1U (1.72" high) enclosure that allows customers to place varying density switches in the same rack space. The Vixel 7200 is the market's highest density sixteen-port switch, while the Vixel 7100 offers eight full-speed ports for smaller SAN applications. The company also recently announced its third generation hub, the Vixel 2100 Zoning Managed Hub, featuring zoning capability for up to four loops. At the same time, the company introduced SAN InSite version 2.2, a Java-based software program that enables users to manage all of Vixel's interconnect products in a SAN. The Vixel 5100 V-GBIC and 5100 V-GLM are the company's latest transceiver innovations, incorporating Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSEL) for the highest reliability and performance of high-speed data transports.
