Fuel Prices Not Expected To Drop
By Evan and Deborah Lockridge

Don't expect diesel prices to retreat anytime soon. Continued compliance by oil-producing countries with crude oil quotas and rising demand worldwide, coupled with the possibility of a severe winter and Y2K fears, mean there's no relief in sight.

The national average retail diesel price hit $1.234 per gallon last week, according to figures from the Department of Energy, the highest it's been all year. Prices in California are creeping back up toward the $1.50 mark after retreating from a high of $1.496 in August.(cont)
