Yes, I've heard it. But considering that chipset development work is done by a different team (or teams), that doesn't preclude development of a rambus chipset - especially if anyone really believes that rambus offers any actual benefit.

Th 810, 820, 840, and profusion chipsets were all developed concurrently, why not a merced chipset that supports rambus?

Once it became clear that merced was a year or more away (last fall - when rambus hope and promotion was at its peak) why not add rambus support to the merced chipset?

We've seen from the 820 that adding rambus support to a chipset isn't easy, but given Intel's resources and a year's time, why not at least try?
