Richard,

The question will be does the Dell system offer more than 28% performance improvement - otherwise the RDRAM camp needs to pull a pretty neat marketing trick to get these systems moving short to mid-term.

While the 28% difference is obviously a strong negative, remember that corporations (the initial purchasers of RDRAM-based systems) are buying much more than a box. They buy based on an on-going, long-term relationship that includes service, support, discounts, et cetera. Dell has done well in this area, which is why it's now holds the #1 share spot in the U.S., and that will make up for some of the difference. I wonder how equivalent RDRAM and SDRAM systems both from Dell would differ in price?

Also, I don't think you'll see comparisons of 500/533Mhz systems. The mags are going to compare 700/733Mhz systems. What's the price % differential there?

Still, I'd prefer to not start with such a large disadvantage <G>.

Dave
