Great post, Mac. Like you, I'm philosophically opposed to any gov't interference with private companies. Like Standard Oil and the railroads at the beginning of the century, though, sometimes it may be necessary. Let me hasten to add that I view ANYTHING done by this administration's DOJ with a lot of skepticism. That said, Microsoft is in a position to use their economic clout unfairly, and something has to be done before their grip becomes unbreakable.
There used to be a joke going around that Bill Gates was going to buy India so he could get the treatment he deserved, as a nuclear power. Not too far off base, actually.
The trick now, IMO, is going to be how to stifle TOO much gov't involvement now that they have won the first round. I suppose that given a choice beetween too much gov't and too much MS, I'd have to say, "damn them both, I'm going to Siberia." <g>
