Peter,

You are correct to question the numbers and bring them back to earth. Perhaps I am getting a little carried away. However consider the following:

1. At the moment servers can have between 2 and 16 IOP's on board, not just one.

2. Storage devices like RAID will also have IOP's. Other peripheral devices like printers, etc, etc, (not all) may also have IOP's.

3. Perhaps WIND will introduce some vertical solutions around intelligent RAID and LAN, hence higher royalties.

4. Linux also drives I2O. It allows the Linux folks to bypass any difficulties they might encounter with regard to drivers as they compete with MS. I think the next rev of Linux due in Jan 2000 supports I2O.

5. In 5 years from now who knows maybe the IOP will be a standard component on the PC motherboard !!! or perhaps IOP functionality will be integrated into "system on a chip" designs.

Regards
JC.
