Thanks, Paul. I understand what he means about the advantage of not using a sub, although he lost me about preamps having more than one set of outputs, etc. I only see a left and right output to the amp and the amp has only left and right input and 4 connections for a pair of speakers. The sub I have is powered, and I haven't seen any for sale that aren't. Perhaps I'll send him an e-mail. I feel really dense, but at least I won't have to invest any money to check out how they sound with a sub since I'm going to keep the one I have hooked up to the A/V receiver upstairs. The speakers sound great with the tuner (no antenna--ordered one today) but I still need the CD player to really tell.
