From Smartportfolio.com In other market news, investor interest was sparked today by a
Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette analyst report that America Online
(NYSE:AOL) and Wal-Mart Stores (NYSE:WMT) are in discussions to form a
possible alliance. Although no deal has been reached and it is unclear
exactly what the alliance would entail, investors were excited about
the prospects of a joint venture between the two giants. If such an
alliance is formed, AOL could increase its subscriber base from Wal-
Mart's large number of customers, many of whom are currently offline,
while Wal-Mart could benefit from enhancing its prominence on the
Internet. AOL shares closed up slightly by 7/8 (+0.59%) to 149 3/8
while Wal-Mart shares edged up 1/16 (+0.11%) to 58 15/16
