Indian bureaucrats must be made politically accountable -- Ackerman

Mumbai, Nov 15: The chairman of the Congressional Caucus on India, Gary Ackerman, called for greater accountability of the Indian bureaucracy.

Speaking at the US Investment summit in Mumbai, he said, "Bureaucrats here think that they are the government, and this is frankly quite baffling. The government should pronounce in clear terms as to who is in charge, is it the public representatives or the bureaucrats?" he said adding that the Indian government should follow the US model where the bureaucracy is politically accountable.....
