I sit too near the monitors to use a 19" myself

I would never sit that close to a 19" TV, why would I want to sit that close to a 19" monitor. I just ordered a 17" Nokia. I'm probably going to add a Matrox G400 dual head to my system which will allow me to add my 15" NEC and the 17" to my NT system. A dual monitor setup is pretty cool. I tried it on Win98.

Definately get a CDRW. They are pretty cheap these days and very handy. Minimum ram should be 128k. Trading systems are not the most CPU intensive uses around. You don't have to go top of the line. Look at using SCSI drives or 7200 rpm IDE drives using ATA 66.
