LOS GATOS, Calif. — November 1, 1999 — fusionOne, a pioneer in the development of next-generation Internet synchronization technology, and Novatel Wireless, Inc., today announced a partnership that will bring the power of Internet Sync‘ to mobile PDA users everywhere. As part of this agreement, Novatel Wireless, a leading provider of wireless Internet solutions, will make available to its customer base, fusionOne's powerful Internet Sync service with their Minstrel family of wireless IP modems for the PalmPilot Professional, Palm III and Palm IIIx. Existing Minstrel users will be able to access fusionOne's sync service from Novatel's website, www.novatelwireless.com or by visiting the fusionOne website, www.fusionOne.com.
According to a recent Forrester Research report, PDAs, such as Palms, have penetrated 3.64 million US households, and Jupiter Communications predicts that there will be an installed base of 5.2 million net-capable PDAs by the end of 1999. By using Novatel's Minstrel modems in tandem with fusionOne's Internet sync service, these millions of Palm users can instantly synchronize their PDA with all their other devices, including their desktop PC and even their mobile phone, no matter where they are.
FusionOne and Novatel Wireless Form Strategic Alliance "Novatel wireless products were developed with the vision of empowering the mobile user," said Bruce Gray, vice president of sales and marketing for Novatel Wireless. "The value-add of fusionOne's Internet Sync service helps us greatly in achieving our mission by enabling seamless synchronization and real-time data access from anywhere. We are pleased to be working with technology visionaries such as fusionOne and look forward to future collaborations."
By offering fusionOne's Internet synchronization e-service, Novatel empowers their vast installed base of mobile users with the ability to quickly and easily update and synchronize their personal digital information, including calendar, email, and contact lists, across a wide range of handheld and desktop computing devices. fusionOne supports all windows-based PCs, Palm 3 and higher, as well as a select group of mobile phones.
"According to recent reports, only half of all PDA users have ever synced their device with their PC," said Rick Onyon, president and CEO of fusionOne. "At fusionOne, our goal is to make synchronization so seamless that it happens automatically and at a time when the user needs it most – when they are away from their PC. By combining our service with the power of a Novatel wireless device, we will make this goal a reality."
fusionOne's free e-service is currently in beta, and will be available to Novatel Minstrel customers in Q1 2000 with 25 megabytes of storage (for synchronized calendar, contact, email and file information) per individual subscriber.
