I never knew he was so popular with college kids. That is encouraging. On a personal level Chesterton has meant a lot to me. Reading him and Belloc was instrumental in re-discovering my faith. Those two guys will always be two of my favorites. Their writings will stand as monuments.

I didn't mean to be so down on him earlier, but this has not been that good a century and if I were to construct a list of the most influential people, I'm afraid it would consist largely of villains and mountebanks. The only positive advancements have been in the medical field and in technology.

By the way, weisenheimer, were Wells and Shaw on your earlier list?
