My guess is people will be affected a lot more than computers will. Very large bureaucratic organizations that still use old computers will take most of the Y2K bug. This means that they may be handicapped for a few months while smaller companies take some of their business.

Its safe to bet that very few residents will be lacking water or power for any time. Although a select bunch of the few processors that water and electric plants need most are not critical and can be done manually. After all, most existing electrical and water systems were in place before the Y2K bug was even possible.

Food may be scarce though if people snap it up just before the New Year. A few people will think that the busy crowd at grocery stores must be due to Y2K panic, but as I know because I worked at a grocery store New Years Eve is one of the busiest days of the year for them.

The only real threat as I've said before is if people take out a lot of cash from the bank for the new year. Although banks should, they do not carry much cash. There is a very high chance of a currency shortage because of this. If that happens then thinks could easily spiral out of control.

If was sure about any of this I know I'd have at least a few good stock ideas. I just hope people panic sell so I can get a good deal. Sure, its a bad thing to hope for but just think how boring the stock market would be without panic.
