I have had the experience of talking about my SI friends with 3D friends, and having some (not all) of them look very suspicious and disdainful, and say things like that it was incomprehensible to them how anyone could be friends with someone whom they didn't know in real life, didn't even know what they looked like, etc., and that it was simply "fantasy," not "real," etcetera.
I ask, "Is the idea of an 'espistolary' relationship incomprehensible to you?", knowing full well that there is respectable literary precedent for such friendships, and that they (literary types all) could hardly express ignorance or incomprehension where those are concerned.
That shuts 'em up.
They're just jealous, anyway.
I hate it when people disappear, too.
In the spring, let's meet at Mohonk Mountain House. Whoever wants to come. Or even in NYC. Of course, you'll want Washington, DC, and others will want the west coast. |
