I Want My 8 Mb/Sec

Hi Michael -

Good to see the Amati regulars come out of the woodwork!

One very large disincentive for offering 8Mb DSL is that all of the infrastructure behind it would have to support that capacity, times however many users have subscribed.

We're talking a serious investment, but an inevitable one, which is why I love the telecom/networking sector so much! The bottom line is that they can offer lower speeds NOW, and have their customers gleeful to sign up for the new service offering, while deferring the expense of upgrading the rest of their plant.

Later, as the need arises (i.e. they're forced by competition from cable or wireless), they can offer increasingly better performance, and extract new, additional premiums those offerings.

All IMHO, of course.
