re digital photography Art, I respectfully suggest you are right in theory but wrong in practice. Everything you talk about for manipulating the image could (and is) done today with conventional film, however the masses dont do it, and I dont see that changing with digital. Some of us will play with numerous editing tools and print and reprint for perfection. Most (99%?) will just want their 10 or 20 or 100, 6 x 4 inch prints. BTW, even for those of us who want to manipulate images, its too time consuming to do en masse. That particular image you really like you may play with for hours until its just right, but those 200 pictures you took whilst on vacation, there is not enough time in the world to individually mess with all of them.
