The shorter the list, the more I get in trouble 4 leaving someone off of it, Richnorth.<g> Yes, I will correct my "mistake" and add your name to the list of those on GPM that "get it" re: Y2K chaos directly ahead.
In point of fact, I was pleasantly surprised when I read a succint note from you earlier this past week/weekend, on this thread, and showing you had "gotten it" about ywk, in which you clearly stated you DID understand what was directly ahead was: deadly, deadly serious, and deadly devastating in its ripple-effect CONCURRENT consequences.
Interesting tidbit you shared about that investment conference last night. Thank you. I share a sense of your incredulity.
The voices of "vested interest" i.e., the band playing on is so apparent it goes without saying.
Allllllll oxen will be gored shortly, yours, mine, and their's. The only difference will be one of degrees of goriness.
All ox "gores" do NOT have to be fatalities, as that depends upon defensive skill levels and preparations of the matador(matadoress?)
Those who have waited to the last minute, or FOR the last minute to "grab a few things, like an extra case of beer" are in for a shock.
No, the shock WON'T be whether or not there IS even any beer t'grab for instance, but the length one must travel, the breadth of effort to locate even one case of their rav fav and the actual out-of-pocket cost of finally getting ahold of their "favorite" brewsky to stay with the allegory.
When I first began listening in earnest to the prepared and preparing set (borrowed that phrase from another poster on another thread) I remember reading an irrascible old Canadian man's eMail journal who headed for the interior of Ontario, bought a delapidated farm, and began the odious and arduous task of tackling the deferred maintenance on his "lifeboat", but also the refurbishing to make it habitable for him and his elderly father for whom he was also planning to rescue. A modern Noah tale with sharp edges and unskillful rhetoric to be sure.
The one thing he said that stuck in my mind throughout his often tiresome tirade and "public diary" of his journey, via his vernacular on a "y2k thread" towhich I subscribed for over one year was this: EVERYTHING he undertook to do took a minimum of 3 times longer PLUS the additional cost to get accomplished/remedied/stashed, etc.
I thought maybe it was because it was just him: HE was slow HE wasn't organized HE wasn't thinking the project through, etc.
NOT!!!!
That IS the truth, and 45 days remaining before midnight 12/31/99 is simply not enough time for the rest of humankind, here and "there" wherEVER there is, simply will NOT be able to pull it off, nor survive: financially, physically, medically, socially, spiritually, psychologically.
This is why I get so ANGRY with Alan GreenPrick! Sure there is a thing called "stages of grief" and DENIAL is certainly one of them.
BUT TO HIS EVERLASTING SHAME, Y2K is happening on HIS watch!!!
There is NO EXCUSE for grieving/denial for 10 years. That pompous, ponderous, pussywhipped piece of public pablum has even perpetrated public pandering by making sick jokes snickering about RESPONSIBLE individual financial remediation planning as I call it--cash withdrawals from the system it as he called it.
Yes, Richnorth, as much as we've gone round and round in the past, I'm GLAD you've GOT it about Y2K. I truly wish you well as this all unfolds. God's Blessings.
