Re Sony/Palm. And other things.
Bummer. However, I have just seen a really snazzy device, a CASIO palm size device, colour screen, $500. WIndows CE, 32Mb memory, takes a compact flash as well, and certainly makes me see WIndows CE in a new light, one that eclipses current Palm.
In addition to running all the normal range of applications, plus MP3 (CF), there is also another great new potential application because of the colour screen. You know how you normally pass around a bunch of photos, 6 x 4 or similar size? Well, pop your 32 or 64 Mb flash in, and the CASIO becomes a photo wallet. Thereby in one bound ending my wife's main objection to digital photography, "well you cant take a PC with you everytime you want to show your pictures! ". [ and giving me an excuse to buy one as well!!] The colour screen and the CF slot make this possible. Now all I need to know is, is there a photo wallet app for Windows CE? Or maybe I could code one? (ROTFLMAO, not a chance with my coding skills. But could be a nice little shareware opp for someone)
Maybe Palm wont have it all to themselves. This CASIO is the first Palm size device I have seen that looks better value (because it can do more things) than Palm. Much as I'd hate to see Windows CE expand, I'd also hate to see Palm with a Sony slot become a defacto standard.
Does anyone know how the price of Sony memory compares to CF? Retail and cost to manufacture would be interesting comparisons. Joe |
