Diversinet Sign's Digital Signature Trust to Provide Certification Authority (CA) Services for Research In Motion's Wireless E-Commerce Enabling Devices
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA--
Large Internet Certification Authority Extends Services to Wireless Transactions
Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ Small Cap: DVNT; CDN: DVNT), a leading provider of security solutions for wireless e-commerce, today announced that Digital Signature Trust (DST), the first licensed certification authority (CA) in the U.S., will extend their existing CA infrastructure to provide CA services for wireless e-commerce applications using Diversinet's PASSport(tm) security products.
This agreement marks the first time that DST, a highly recognized CA service provider, extends their CA services to the wireless e-commerce user community. When customers first register a RIM wireless handheld device including the RIM Inter@ctive(tm) Pager 950, RIM 850 and BlackBerry(tm) Handheld, they will be issued "user digital certificates" from DST. In addition, DST will manage these certificates and the ones embedded in the device by the manufacturer.
Diversinet's security technology lets RIM device users, for example, make secure stock trades over the Internet without the need to find a PC terminal with an Internet connection. DST's digital certificates, based on Diversinet's technology, identify users online, assuring all parties involved that a trade is authentic to the certificate's owner. This process is a step beyond mere encryption of the message. The arrangement will provide Diversinet with ongoing recurring revenue.
Nagy Moustafa, President and CEO of Diversinet, said, "Digital Signature Trust's entrance into the wireless space marks an important step forward for the future of wireless e-commerce. By extending its' CA services to the wireless e-commerce community, DST can offer clients an end-to-end security solution regardless of whether the network is wired or wireless. High levels of security are necessary to grow the wireless industry, and clearly Diversinet and DST, along with RIM are leading the way."
J. Scott Lowry, President and CEO of DST, said, "It is exciting for Digital Signature Trust to be in on the ground floor of an amazing revolution in the world of communications. Wireless devices are fast becoming the next must-have communications tools, and secure e-commerce communications are vital in order for the wireless industry to grow."
Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO at Research In Motion, said "With the enabling of DST as a Certification Authority for wireless e-commerce, our user community can extend the level of security in their wireless e-commerce applications and use the CA services of a well respected service provider." |
