Do you think the rise of American pop culture is really that positive? American pop/slob culture supplanting centuries old existing culture doesn't strike me as a plus. Disney failed in France because they have real castles there. They don't need our fakes. I also think a six foot tall garish orange and yellow plastic statue of Ronald MacDonald plunked on a sidewalk in Beijing breeds something other than respect.

The direction toward youth that American culture took in the 50's has to be a negative. It's led to an infantilism in our public discourse. It reached an absurd point when I heard a teaser for an ad for the Dish network,"Find out what 2 year olds everywhere are talking about..." I don't believe the ad was parody.
