I believe it was National Review. Anyway, the article detailed how running for office has become a business for them and that his sister reaps most of her financial rewards by raising money, buying media and selling the donor list. It seems most of her family is employed in the same. And not just during the election years.

For Pat, the rewards appear to be to his ego and in raising his public profile, substantially enhancing his remuneration as a TV host/author.

The two milk the system. In the past they continued to solicit donations well after Buchanan was finished as a candidate in 92 and 96 because the donations would be matched with taxpayer funds. The article led one to the conclusion that Buchanan may have switched parties because his Republican effort had already failed this time around and that the third way offered the most financial reward - the big cache of "Reform" money exacted from the US public.

You're right, that Fulani deal reveals that Buchanan has no real political convictions, as if his other high profile switches hadn't already demonstrated that.
