Paul, Intel investors, Intel Xeon 8-way server used as platform as Unisys Sets Record for SAP R/3 Performance on a Single Windows NT-Based Server Configuration

Below part is interesting and reminded me of Scumbria's almost automatic "NT sucks" quip whenever NT came up.

"These results reinforce a growing body of evidence that Unisys is taking a leadership role in
accelerating the new era of enterprise-class performance, scalability and lower total cost of
ownership for large ERP and electronic business solutions," said David Vaskevitch, Vice
President of Microsoft Developer Division. "Customers with even the most demanding

Unisys Sets Record for SAP R/3 Performance on a Single
Windows NT-Based Server Configuration

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1999--Unisys Corporation today announced
that the eight-processor Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES5085 set a new record for
supporting the greatest number of SAP R/3 Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark users ever
on a single Windows NT-based server.

SAP R/3 is a component of mySAP.com, the SAP Internet business strategy that provides an
open collaborative environment of personalized solutions on demand.

The results were derived using the SAP R/3 Standard Sales and Distribution Application
Benchmark methodology, the computer industry's standard method of measuring SAP R/3
performance. The test simulates the maximum number of concurrent users supported by a
system that is providing acceptable response times.

The test simulated a workload of 380 SAP R/3 SD benchmark users with an average dialog
response time of 1.94 seconds, topping the previous best mark of 372 SD benchmark users for
a single-server configuration. The ES5085 server tested was specially configured to optimize
the performance of SAP R/3 solutions, thus achieving a throughput of 38,200 fully business
processed order line items per hour.

"These tests show how much SAP R/3 users stand to benefit from Unisys data-center expertise
applied to optimizing the performance of Intel- and Microsoft server technology," said G. W.
Smith, vice president and general manager, Worldwide Business Solutions, Unisys Computer
Systems. "Working closely with SAP and Microsoft, we are using the price/performance
advantages of Windows NT-based servers to redefine the economics of enterprise computing
and large-scale electronic business."

The Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES5085 employed in the benchmark test was
configured with eight 550-MHz Pentium III Xeon processors, four Gbytes of memory and two
Mbytes of level 2 cache. The server ran the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition
operating system, SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition database management system and SAP
R/3 Release 4.0B.

The CPU utilization was 99 percent, with a total disk space of 441 Gbytes. The benchmark
was conducted at the Unisys performance laboratory in Mission Viejo, CA, and has been
certified by SAP. More information on the benchmark is available upon request from Unisys
and SAP.

"Customers with even the most demanding
application requirements can benefit from Unisys servers that have been optimized to deliver
maximum SAP R/3 performance in a Microsoft Windows NT and SQL Server 7.0
environment."
