Thanks for the post, I also believe that SANs hold great potential.

I would watch Qwest's Cyber.Solutions very closely as well, as I think that it does have a number of interesting elements in place that could contribute to the growth of this segment. Admittedly, Qwest has been rather long on announcements and short on delivery, however in an ideal scenario it could be the model that you are looking towards. I am impressed with the level of SLAs that the company is moving towards, even if it is only for general consumption. After all, transactions, not page views, should be the major driver of the Internet/private networks over the next few years, IMHO.

What are your views of the last mile in this high-volume SAN environment? You note in 2007 that these massive server farms will be pumping out data across high bandwidth backbone capacity, however must we all move towards a fiber to the desktop model? VDSL must surely play a role in your example, no? Or can wireless scale to that capacity over the next few years?

Just some thoughts, and I hope to discuss this further with you soon.
