John; You left out the tax consequences. I can't afford to sell my Lucent. Especially to place a bet on the next whiz.com. As we get older, the stability of Lucent makes a nice retirement nest egg. You seem to assume that risky growth stocks will always be the optimum investment and we will never age. BTW there is a small dividend that you don't mention.
