Company Press Release
Xicor Announces the X84256, a 256K MPS EEPROM
Industry's FASTEST serial EEPROM memory
Part operates at 10 Mhz with 2.5V Operating Voltage
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16 1999--Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq:XICO - news) today announced the availability of the X84256 MPS(TM) EEPROM.

The device is a 256K serial EEPROM organized 32K x 8 with a data transfer rate of 10MHz at 2.5V. It is designed to meet the needs of high-speed memory I/O buses to support the needs of today's high-speed processors. The X84256 is ideal for use in cell phones, networking cards, printers, bar code scanners and other high performance applications.

The X84256 is the latest addition to the Xicor family of Micro-Port Saver (MPS) EEPROMs. This family includes densities from 4K to 256K with the release of the X84256.

This device is ideally suited for use in microcontroller, microprocessor and DSP systems that have limited I/O channels to communicate with the memory. It's unique design utilizes the system bus instead of traditional I/O ports to communicate with the processor. Only one pin is assigned for the I/O function which allows the designer considerable flexibility in the choice of a processor.

''The X84256 sets the standard for serial EEPROM performance,'' said Walter Wong, director of nonvolatile memory marketing. ''No other serial memory can match the blazing 10 Mhz performance at 2.5V operating voltage.

''When combined with the very small footprint possible with Xicor's XBGA packaging, the X84256 removes EEPROM memory bottlenecks for even the most demanding applications,'' he continued. ''The XBGA package is 58% smaller than older SOIC packages (8.4 mm2 for XBGA versus 20 mm2 for SOIC packaging).

Availability and Price

The X84256 is available in an 8 lead SOIC, 14 lead TSSOP and an ultra small foot print micro BGA (XBGA(TM)) package. The price of the X84256S8-2.5 with a Vcc of 2.5V in an 8-lead SOIC package in the 1000 quantity level is $4.14.
