I don't, of course, know the answer for sure but some thoughts: Buying the handset division wouldn't directly provide them with wireless internet capability but the overall deal could make the Q an enabling "partner" in the race for highspeed wireless internet access, give them a chance to save face with the lawsuit they are going to lose, and keep one of their competitors from getting the advantage Q brings with the deal.
