This is not a fight or a war. Its not a nationalistic issue. And has nothing to do with loyalty. Its business, plain and simple. I'd be wary of a personal agenda if they resist a generous offer. There responsibility is to shareholders and share value first. I have to believe that Mannesmann management is shrewdly trying to get the most out of this deal. Let the chess game begin. If I am incorrect, and pride, loyalty, nationalism play a role, as a Mannessmann investor I would dump my shares immediately because these elements have no place in capitalism (as China has confirmed by their recent agreements), and as VOD management I would question the strategy of joining with such a backward company.
