"Ma Bell buying buildings? RICHARDSON - Scuttlebutt around the barber shop is that Southwestern Bell is looking to buy up what amounts to about 350,000 square feet among three buildings in the Telecom Corridor.
Reliable sources say Southwestern Bell is looking to buy the 7th Level building at 2180 N. Glenville Drive and the planned Opus South building next door on Campbell Glen, and then buy or build a third building maxing out at about 150,000 square feet.
The 7th Level building is in the shell stage. Dallas PC game maker 7th Level Inc. sold the 60,000-square-foot, former build-to-suit before it was completed because of financial difficulties.
The Opus South building is a planned 152,700-square-foot office building that hasn't gone vertical yet, although the foundation was started.
Why and what Southwestern Bell plans to do with the high-tech office space remains a mystery, because executives at the telecommunications giant could not be reached for comment at press time.
