Compaq apparently supports the enactment of UCITA, the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act (a resurrection of something shouted down +/- when it was known as proposed UCC Article 2B). I thought that d*mn thing had a stake through its heart, but it seems to need a silver bullet, too.

It's the proposed legislation that (IMHO and paraphrasing) makes shrinkwrap licenses enforceable and allows software providers to remotely turn off the software they provide (thereby trapping your data) if they have a dispute with you, among other evils.

I think
(a) CPQ should poll their customers and shareholders to see how THEY feel about it, and
(b) they have better things to do with their resources.

JMHO, and not a legal opinion.
