Joe, I would like to thank you for all your helpful information regarding trace routing and backbone providers. Over the last week, my problems have continued on and off with securing a stable connection with IQ. Just about every time I lost connection, the source of the problem seemed to be with the agis network in Chicago. To solve this situation, I've taken the following steps and here are the results:
1. Signed up with Earthlink: This provider was suggested by IQ for stable connections. In doing my research, I discovered their major backbone providers were MCI,Sprint, UUnet. However, in signing up for their service and connecting to IQ, I discovered they were also using the agis network. Thus it cost me a non-refundable fee of $29 to use this service for a couple of hours.
2. Signed up with Voyager Online: This provider is utilizing MCI and Sprint as their backbone network. Been using them for a day now and have not lost any connections. In fact when I lost connection with my regular provider to IQ, I switched over to Voyager and was able to secure a connection. In doing a trace routing, Voyager is using MCI network all the way to Interquote.
To anyone still having difficulty with IQ, the source of the problem is most likely the agis network in Chicago. I would highly recommend searching for a provider in your area which uses MCI as their backbone network and also have them perform a trace routing to confirm the path to IQ.
