I don't disagree with your post one iota (that's a word, right?). Nothing wrong with short-term trading and interpreting technicals off of charts, and all. I sincerely wasn't attempting to trash that as a legitimate strategy - fundamental, technical or some voodoo combination -- whatever helps you reach your financial goals is ok by me...
Sorry if I was a bit cloudy in my post. You, Tom and others who trade more actively do it in a more "transparent" mode, if you will. You discuss strategies, post links to charts, etc., etc. -- and I have no doubt that your percentage returns may be much higher than mine.
Folks here listen and digest your ideas, and can choose to act or not act on them...a true back & forth forum -- one of the best threads I've ever read, IMHO...
My criticism stems from what sounds awfully like the famous "shorty script" that was floating around a year or so ago, where an individual just posts the same uncertainties over, and over and over again, trying to shake loose the share price for his own benefit, or to pick up new disciples whose confidence in their own stock picks he has shaken, and now they flock to him for advice.
Now, I'm the last to say that it's my job to protect anyone from flip-flopping their view on a company based on the last bit of press they've read (no matter how ill-timed) or what day of the week it is, for that matter...It's just unfortunate to see how it can cause a quality discussion forum to quickly unravel (as gauged by the past several posts, I guess)...
Geez -- reminds me of one of the classic Twilight Zone episodes (hope I'm not dating myself too much, here). Anyone remember? Bunch of suburban folks in the '60's think that a UFO has landed and aliens (that look like humans) are among them. Neighbor starts to turn on neighbor, as each thinks that the other poses a threat to his family (interesting parallels to McCarthyism during the cold war). In the end, folks are dead, the town is on fire, and the actual aliens are on a hill, far away, concluding that they don't have to launch a major offensive after all. All they need to do is to prey on people's fears and doubts and let them tear each other to shreds...
