There's this new Swedish company recently listed at Nasdaq, called Cellpoint. They have developed this technology that enables the mobile networks to pinpoint where a GSM phone is at any given moment (well, not excatly "pinpoint", the accuracy is around 100 meters).

There's no question that making mobile commerce secure (Schlumberger and Oberthur, plus the Sonera Entrust stuff) and allowing the mobile networks to track the phones and thus offer local M-commerce info to the users (Cellpoint and the GSP alternative) are going to be big. It's just really hard to figure out which alternatives are going to make it in the long run.

And will the profits start to migrate from the traditional manufacturers and operators to these specialized niche experts? It's probably the time to start diversifying into some of these start-ups and away from the telecom giants. The winnowing process will probably be pretty ugly, but some of these new entrants look pretty hot.
