You are right. I did not express myself adequately. What I meant to say was that the N225 gives a good reflection of the 'bricks & mortar' Japan but not of the new electronic wave sweeping the country. But 'bricks & mortar' is still the principal activity and the Japanese consumer has to regain confidence. Too many Nikkei stocks have only plodded along e.g Alps, Anritsu, Kajima, Heiwa, Dai Nippon Printing, Jaccs and the like.

Your target of 25,000 by Dec 31, 2000 could well be attained but it would need a deeper recovery than what we have seen so far. However some companies will do much better by this date than the average - and these companies will be active in sectors such as the Internet and in video games.
