Hey, I just bought a couple of cheap tickets to San Diego (R/T from ATL @ $208/ea.). We'll arrive this Sat @10A and depart Tue @ 7A.

This is my first visit to Cali and I don't know what to do. As beautiful as I'm sure San Diego is, it's never "called" me. Neither has LA for that matter. But SF has. Problem is SF's about 500 miles away, and I haven't been able to finagle a cheap flight to get us there.

Any ideas for a great itinerary between SD and SF in the time frame available? Should I bite the bullet, put the top back on the rent-a-convertible and head on up the coast in one shot . . .or spread the trip over a couple of days (damn that leaves me with a redeye drive on the way back) . . . or just daytrip around the San Diego area?

Are there any cheap commuter flights one can grab without a 7-day advance?I haven't found anything on-line so far (checked Southwest and priceline.com).

I'm excited about the prospect of an adventure, but my concept hasn't gelled yet. . .

Oh yeah, priorities are: wine, food, museums, music, and some sightseeing (redwoods, beaches . . .)
