My husband was stationed on San Deigo- so I will ask him to post to you later tonight- but the Ca Coast is Awesome. Monterey is beautiful- and further north is breathtaking. Highway one is well worth doing- and there is fine food to be had up and down the coast. I used to do Biology field work in Morro Bay and that was a really nice place. Good dining also. San Diego is so built up now I don't now what would be scenic- but Laguna Beach used to be very artsy and it also had tons of very good restaurants- and it isn't far.
