Yo_jdaasoc.................How are ya? Now that that's over, down to business:
Re:An Intel distributor will have CC820 mobo by Friday. VC820 still AWOL........
I stay in pretty close touch with Tech Data and Ingram on most parts availability, particularly if I know I am going to need a large quantity of any items on up coming P.O.'s (especially hard to get notebooks), BUT if you are going to make deliveries of any new RAMBUS enabled machines I suggest you use Hewlett-Packard through the channel. They have plenty of availibility of both 820 and 840 configurations and you get the benefit of their memory price discount passed through to you in the completed unit. If you try to buy RAMBUS memory right now on a onesy - twosy basis, you will pay twice as much as if purchased with the complete machine.
I have a HP service center near me in Richardson, Tx and I know most of the HPUX system service guys there. I got the opportunity to see one of HP's new 840 KAYAK-UX or UW(?) workstations in action about two weeks ago in one of their training rooms, and it is AWESOME! If you are building a single machine for yourself, I recommend you go with the 840 chipset and a SuperMicro board. All three of the 840 boards on their website right now are all MTH/sdram, but they should have the 840 RAMBUS boards to their disties as we speak! Or you might purchase a base model HP or IBM and do your own HDD system, video, sound etc.
Re:Timna on the board as Processor at the entry performance and cost level in 2H00. It will definitely be SDRAM.
Maybe not, here is where the low pin count of RAMBUS really shines in low cost manufacturing, and by the release date of Timna, Rambus will probably have a much lower cost/MB, and might be a less costly solution than SDRAM. Quien sabe?
Re:Any ideas on market share of 700+ MHz systems that will be using RDRAM. My feeling is about 10-15% by 2H00. In July, we were expecting 40-50% market share RDRAM by 2H00. It is realistic to expect about 10 million RDRAM PC's to be sold in 00.
Tenchusatsu has already posted to you on this and I think his estimates are probably as good as, or better than, anyone else's, including mine. I sure would NOT predict any specific quantities of RAMBUS PC's to be sold in '00.
Re:I am realistically reducing my expectations for RMBS by a large amount which means 90-100 is the top for a long while. I see real problems dealing with bad news from here on.
Jdaasoc, I was talking earlier tonight on the phone with "BIG-JIM", and his thoughts are that as RAMBUS machines begin to appear more and more in ads and retail stores around Christmas that the $100 dollar mark is a real possibility pretty fast, and once that mark is breached the next trades will take place at $125/share, with nothing in between. He just might be RIGHT! Might be a good idea to check with Zeev, and see what his turnips say about this? Just remember that as more and more people start to see RAMBUS all over the place, market presence and awareness will rise GEOMETRICALLY - and that is VERY BULLISH.
Re:Up to now, I was looking for option premium income from going long via short PUTs. I am done with that strategy and looking to go naked short Calls when it looks like RMBS is under pressure. As of this afternoon, it looks like that time has come.
I never trade ANYTHING that is TIME LIMITED, because I am a terrible market timer!
Salude to you, Jdaasoc, and good luck on your naked short CALLS - you certainly got bigger cajones than me! - Norman
