The SEC has seriously put a damper on excessive valuations for IR&D and the SEC and FASB almost took the option away completely. To discuss your other points would make the posts Accounting Theory and practice vs. Dell specific. Not too sure if this is the best place to do so. I like accounting (just check out my profile), but it usually isn't a popular topic <grin>. Michael
