In the ADVR news release today it was stated that "Prior to combination therapy, both (AIDS) patients did not tolerate the cocktail treatment alone. Moreover, while solely on HAART, both experienced increases in viral load." As you know, it is further indicated in the news release, after combining Substance R with their cocktails the data support the fact that their was a substantial improvement in the health of both these AIDS patients.
It appears to me that these AIDS patients would, most probably, be dead if they did not combine Substance R with the particular cocktail they were taking.
What is also evident to me is that these two AIDS patients were very fortunate to have had Substance R available. Other individuals who may find themselves in such an unfortunate strait may now have NO OTHER RECOURSE BUT TO COMBINE SUBSTANCE R with their AIDS cocktail, unless there is some other drug available that can do as good a job as Substance R has done for this Parisian and New Yorker. Fortunately, under the compassionate-use rules individuals who find themselves in such a situation can obtain Substance R, if they know about it.
Also, I feel that Martin Delaney of the San Francisco-based AIDS patient advocacy group Project Inform, and David Gilden editor of Treatment Issues, a news letter published by the Gay Mens Health Crisis of New York, if they are truly advocates for AIDS patients, should begin pushing for immediate trials to get Substance R FDA approved.
To refresh you memories, in the Barron's May 20,1996 Erick Savitz article Martin Delaney was quoted as saying "This thing (Reticulose) has been around since the 1930s, and it's been sold for everything". and Dave Gilden was quoted as saying "I've seen the Hirschman abstract (Biomedicine '96 Poster Session) and it seemed not to be very definitive. I'd be surprised if it (Reticulose) really did something".
I don't feel that the faithful posters and lurkers of this thread, and all other ADVR Boards, are at all surprised [as Dave and Martin should be today] at the success that Dr. Hirschman has had in proving what he said about the merits of Reticulose in that Barron's article are true. |
