I'm guessing the bigger problem is the companies don't all have a clear sense of who their target audience is. It is also possible that the companies lack the confidence and savvy to interpret what their market research firms are telling them.

I think the E-Toys ads are the most effective inet ads (I checked the site out after I saw the carwash ad, and I don't even have kids), with the Jackie Chan/Waterhouse ad winning for "cool-but-ineffective" (in that it doesn't differentiate Waterhouse from any other olb).
