Which came first, the DOS OS or WordPerfect, 123 and dBase (you know, the chicken or the egg)? Why do you think these vendors chose to write to DOS instead of Atari, Amiga, Gem, etc.? The DOS OS was popular before the first major iteration from most of these vendors, why????

Why didn't Geoworks Ensemble attract the apps from third parties instead of MSFT Windows?

You are totally ignoring the answer to these questions. Vendors will write to the OS which has the greatest chance of making them the most money. MSFT knows how to market in this fashion.

It is much more complex than just having a bunch of apps. Now, MSFT has a barrier to entry in the form of extant training and conversion costs (not mentioned by the judge), Proprietary file formats, and many applications. The proprietary file formats are quickly nullified by the HTML default format (as you will soon see), the proliferation of WAN apps over the web will eat away at MSFT market share way before any court can make a final legal determination, which makes this a waster of govt. resources. The dilemma is, will MSFT control the underpinning technology behind these new WAN apps? It is a good chance they may, but even if they due, the changing economics of the software industry is leaving software a commodity, much as hardware became a commodity over the last three years. With software analagous to actual media, it is solely the business intelligence within the software that will draw value. thhe value of proprietary bits and bytes are yesteryear.
