PNL-TV to Broadcast DOC Release of 'The Economics of Y2K and the Impact on the United States' Study

The report estimates that from 1995 through 2001, U.S. businesses and government agencies will spend approximately $100 billion to identify, test and correct error-prone technologies. This is the equivalent of $365 for every American. The report concludes the single largest effect of Y2K on the economy may well be the diversion of these funds from other issues.
Speaking at the press conference were U.S. Secretary of Commerce William M. Daley, John A. Koskinen, chairman of the President's Council on Year 2000 conversion and Robert J. Shapiro, Commerce Undersecretary for Economic Affairs, who directs the Economics & Statistics Administration, which prepared the report.
