CFM Technologies Announces Follow-On Order from SEMICONDUCTOR300
I NEEDED SOME GOOD NEWS AFTER YESTERDAY! --Duker
EXTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1999--CFM Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: CFMT - news), a leading manufacturer of advanced wet processing equipment for semiconductor manufacturing, today announced that it has received a follow-on order from SEMICONDUCTOR300, the joint venture between Infineon Technologies and Motorola, for a 300mm OMNI(TM)wet processing tool. SEMICONDUCTOR300 is the first wafer fab to use 300mm wafers to produce integrated circuits, and recently announced a significant milestone in 300mm progress - shipment of the world's first products from 300mm wafers to customers. The qualification of the 64M DRAM produced on 300mm wafers at SEMICONDUCTOR300 was achieved nine months after production of the first integrated lot.
``We are pleased to be able to announce this tangible evidence of our success at SEMICONDUCTOR300,' commented Roger A. Carolin, CFM's President and Chief Executive Officer. ``Our 300mm program has been a major focus at CFM over the past 3 years and this follow-on order validates its contribution. Our first production tools shipped to SEMICONDUCTOR300 in April 1998, one month ahead of our original project schedule. Our close work with the SEMICONDUCTOR300 team since that time has enabled us to demonstrate the performance and production worthiness of numerous processes on our equipment.'
Dr. Peter Kucher, General Manager of SEMICONDUCTOR300 added, ``Our ability to ship products from 300mm wafers to customers, before other chipmakers have a proven 300mm toolset, demonstrates a clear advantage for us and our suppliers.'
The 300mm OMNI(TM)tool utilizes CFM's unique, patented Full-Flow(TM)technology, and is based upon the Company's successful 200mm platform. By leveraging its 200mm design, CFM successfully achieved its goals of maximizing 300mm equipment capability reliability, and overall production-worthiness while minimizing technical risk and time-to-market. CFM completed its development program in 1998 and can demonstrate 300mm tool performance in its recently expanded Applications Laboratory in West Chester, PA.
The discussion above includes certain forward-looking statements with regard to the outcome of pending patent litigation. As such, actual results may vary materially from such expectations. CFM believes that it will prevail in the legal proceedings described above; however, there can be no assurance of such outcome, and an adverse determination in this proceeding could have a material adverse effect on the Company.
CFM Technologies, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of advanced cleaning equipment for the semiconductor and flat panel display industries. CFM's systems provide superior contamination control and processing capabilities using a totally enclosed processing chamber. Watermarks and other drying defects are eliminated through CFM's Direct-Displace(TM)IPA vapor drying technology. CFM historically has invested in technical innovations to lower cost of ownership for advanced wet processing systems.
