Michael - what makes Globalstar and Sycamore so fascinating is the way they reflect this market's willingness to look deeper and deeper into the future. The situation is pretty unique - Globalstar handset prices were widely anticipated to be around 700-900 dollars. But the higher actual prices don't have any impact on the stock. Neither do the schedule changes. Neither do Iridium's price cuts. It's like the markets are entering a new phase where investors look deeper and deeper into future sales and earnings and short-term stumbles and problems are losing their relevance entirely. We're floating into techno investment bliss where immediate warning signs have no power over the talismanic significance of long-term projections.

Ericsson's yesterday's semi-profit warning was another example. Just a few months ago it would have resulted in a slaughter. Now Ericy is popping up by 5% today. Is the entire telecom sector turning into an internet gold rush? Seems likely. Is this really healthy? Seems unlikely. Is it fun? Like a barrelful of GOP senators!

It's good to get beyond the "short this pig!" and "buy this screamer!" type of dialogue in these message boards and the GSTRF board is more informative than any I've seen at SI. But I can't help thinking that more and more stocks are now linked more and more tightly to the overall telecom sector rush. Markets aren't trying to separate winners from losers. Many think this is hog heaven. Maybe - but the Christmas is around the corner.
