I know I2 (although not their recent releases)... I think the primary difference is that I2 is a bolt-on ERP package that needs to be installed and customized to the environment... every installation and upgrade is time consuming and takes resources. Commerce One otoh (and now Ariba too, it looks like) intend to install software which is bascally outsourced over the internet via XML and then charge customers by the transaction. So its a lot more revenue growth, a lot easier. Enterprise software like I2 is really a pain... but prior to the internet there was no choice... and xml looks like it is helping vs. edi too (but I have no direct experience with XML)
